The last few months haven’t been that great for Indian umpires, and tonight was no different, as the IPL encounter between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders witnessed some substandard umpiring. With 179 needed to win at their home fortress of the Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians got off to a decent start with Jos Buttler looking in good nick. The England recruit though received a shocker of a decision as the call for LBW seemed inappropriate with the ball clearly sliding down leg. That, however, wasn’t to be the worst call of the game, as it was reserved for none other than Mumbai’s flamboyant captain Rohit Sharma. Batting at an unusual position of number four, Rohit was up against the mystery and guile of Sunil Narine. With the run rate getting steep with every passing over, Rohit was bound to be Mumbai’s biggest hope for the game. It didn’t take long though for things to head southwards, as Sharma received a blunder of a decision. On a Sunil Narine delivery which remained low, Rohit just about managed to get some willow and the sound was clearly audible. After hitting his bat, the ball hit Sharma on the pad. The visitors went up for the appeal and within a few seconds, umpire C. Nandan raised his finger, giving Rohit the shock of his life. The Mumbai Indians captain was clearly shaken as he violently shook his head and foul-mouthed on his way back. But with the drastic fall in Mumbai Indians batting line-up and with 49 Runs required in last 3 overs Hardik Pandya and Nitish Rana took Mumbai Indians to victory. Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya played stellar knock as Mumbai Indians snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was a nail-biting end to the Sunday evening as the hosts scraped home with just one ball left.

Chasing 179 was never going to be easy, especially with Rana and Hardik coming to the crease with 60 needed off just 23 balls. But in the end, Mumbai won by four wickets as Hardik remained unbeaten on 29 off just 11 balls with two sixes and three fours.

Even though Rana (50) was dismissed off the third ball of the 19th over with MI still needing 19 off 9 balls, Hardik wasn’t done and saw his team through.
