Film Padmavati and its controversies
The Deepika Padukone-Shahid Kapoor-Ranveer Singh starrer biggie Padmavati by ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali which went on floors from September 2016, has been in the limelight since its inception. The film has been mired in controversies right from the beginning and has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.Let's have a look at the controversies which hit the film:
Starcast – Bhansali had planned to cast tv actor Vickey Kaushal to play the king of Chittor and husband to Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone). Everything was arranged when Deepika set her foot down that she won’t work with a small time actor and need a Bollywood superstar to play her husband in the film. There was criticism from several corners, but Deepika refused to budge and ultimately, Bhansali had to let Vicky Kaushal go and cast Shahid Kapoor to play the King of Chittor!

Ranveer Singh Tantrums- the actor Ranveer Singh who is to play the role of Allauddin Khilji in the period drama became insecure and was not happy with the meaty role of Shahid Kapoor and asked the director to cut short the role. However, the director refused to do so and it created a lot of tension between the two and affected the progress of the film.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali attacked- members of the Rajput Karni Sena beat up Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of Padmavati in Jaipur’s Jaigarh Fort in January 2017. 60 to 70 Rajput Karni Sena protestors breached the private security of the set and went on to assault the director and vandalize the film’s set. The attack was a triggered by rumors that Padmavati, the queen of Chittor has a love sequence with Alauddin Khilji, the Delhi Sultan, which was seen as a distortion of Rajasthan's history.

Set put on fire- 30 to 50 Unidentified locals from Kolhapur village put the sets of the film at Masai Pathar on fire with torches and petrol bombs at around 2 am on 15th March 2017, heavily damaging it.Police reached the spot early in the morning with fire engines and the fire was put under control.

Let’s hope all is well with the film.
